Mister PiX - Features

Mister Pix helps you searching the internet and downloading files. Additionally the application provides an easy way to manage and organize the (downloaded) files on your hard disk.

It includes a built in picture viewer with lots of functions for image editing, and a slide show.

The multifunctional user interface enables you to perform different search tasks simultaneously and in the background.

Even uploading images to newsgroups is very convenient with Mister PiX and can be done easily and fast.

Gallery

The gallery is used to display and manage files on your hard disk. Files are shown in a thumb overview. The directory structure of your hard disk is shown in a tree view and enables you to create new folders and perform useful file commands (copy, move, rename).
Not only the files that you've downloaded with Mister PiX are shown, but all files who's file types are listed under "Settings"->"File Types".
In addition the gallery view provides the following functions:

Image Display: A useful display window providing scaling and image editing functions. You can also add notes to the images.
Slide Show: Presentation of all images of the selected folder, random and full screen mode can be activated.
Create Picture Index: Select any desired thumbnail in the gallery and generate a new image that contains smaller copies of the selected thumbs like a contact print.
Post Images: Selected files can be posted to a newsgroup. You can choose an unitary title for the messages that are send. On request you can also take advantage of the ANPX (Advanced News Picture Index).

WWW Search

The WWW Search queries search engines, browses all search results of these queries, and downloads the files it finds. You only have to enter a search term and define the search engines that are to be queried in the settings dialog. After you've started the searching progress you can directly view all downloaded images in the gallery. You can even perform a URL Scan at the same time if you like.
On request the software creates a search protocol in HTML format which contains all internet adresses that have been visited during the search.

If you already know where to look for the files you want, the URL Scan is the tool of your choice. Just enter the URL and start the process. Mister PiX will download any file on your hard disk he can find (and that matches your criteria). By setting the minimum image size you can prevent downloading unwanted images like banners or other.

News Reader

Mister PiX is not only capable of the HTTP but of the News protocol as well. The application can scan whole news groups. First you have to define the server(s) you want to use and subscirbe to the news groups of your interest. After that the news headers are downloaded by the software, giving you an overview about the articles. You can read single articles or scan a whole set of selected articles for files. The news headers can optionally be filtered by a keyword.
Huge files that are fragmented and distributed within several news articels, can be combined and decoded again.

ANPX

If you like to download ANPX series you select the ANPX function and click on the "Start" button. All subscribed news groups will be scanned for ANPX entries. The special ANPX format provides a fast overview over the images contained in a series. In a second step you can start downloading the images themselves.

Settings

Mister PiX provides a variety of settings such as:

General:
- Minimal image size in order to filter unwanted image files.
- The policy of handling double file names (ignore, overwrite or rename).
- Specification of download and gallery folders.
Slide Show
- Random or ordered display of the images
- Full screen display
- Interval
Optimization
- Websites that do not respond after a given interval can be ignored by request.
File types
- Define the file types that should be downloaded here. There are four categories (Images, Sounds, Videos and Custom).
WWW Search
- The list of search engines that are queried with the possibility to add new engines or temporarily disable certain engines.
URL Scan
- Scan mode (Recursive or Level-by-Level)
- Number of simultaneous tasks
- Extent of the scan (scan depth, links to other sites)
News Reader
- List of news servers and news groups
- news assistent for adding new servers

Slide Show

Back to the overview

The slide show shows all images in the current gallery folder. The images can be scaled to full screen mode by request. The order of the images depends either on the order that is selected in the gallery or is randomly. The interval of changing images can be modified. You can also switch to the next image manually by pressing the Space or the Return key.

Post Images

Back to the overview

You can select images in the gallery and post them to newsgroups, combined with an index in the ANPX format. This format makes sharing of images much easier. Mister PiX posts the images in several news articles with a title an da numbering of your choice. Another news article containing the index is also send and will help other users to download the whole series.
